5 Sustainable Fashion Brands Based in the Netherlands

When it comes to sustainable fashion and building a green closet, there are many things that we should focus on. One tip that always seems to be on the list is to shop locally. And how could it not be? Shopping locally has many benefits, including supporting the business in your region but also lowering your carbon footprint.

Seeing as my biggest audience is located in the Netherlands, I’m writing this post keeping my fellow dutchies in mind.

Let’s look at some of the sustainable fashion brands from the Netherlands.

Mud Jeans

Introducing the first standout brand on our sustainable fashion journey—a name you may recognize from our earlier exploration of eco-friendly denim: Mud Jeans. This innovative company has embraced a fully circular model, making waves in the realm of sustainable jeans.

What sets Mud Jeans apart is their commitment to using certified organic and recycled materials in every aspect of their denim production. From the fabric to the buttons and zippers, 100% stainless steel is employed, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint. The jeans themselves are crafted from a blend of recycled and organic cotton, embodying the brand’s dedication to responsible fashion.

Mud Jeans takes circularity to a whole new level with a design that allows every component to be 100% recyclable. But here’s where they truly shine—the option to lease jeans. Yes, you read that right! Mud Jeans offers customers the opportunity to purchase an annual membership, granting them the ability to lease any pair of jeans from their collection for just €9.95 per month throughout the entire year. At the end of the membership period, you can choose to either keep the jeans or switch them out for a fresh pair.

Not interested in a membership? No problem. Mud Jeans also provides the option to purchase jeans directly without committing to a yearly plan. And when you’re ready to part ways with your denim, simply send them back, and Mud Jeans will take care of the recycling process, extending their eco-conscious efforts to include jeans from other brands as well.

One of the most commendable aspects of Mud Jeans is their diverse range of styles, catering to all shapes and sizes. Whether you’re passionate about sustainability or simply seeking the perfect pair of jeans, Mud Jeans offers a compelling solution that aligns with your values without compromising on style.

Prices Range: €9,95 (Lease) – €119,95 (Buy)

Kuyichi

Established in 2001, Kuyichi stands out as the pioneering force in sustainable denim, marking a significant milestone in eco-conscious fashion. Devoted to crafting garments with both sustainability and ethics at the forefront, Kuyichi has been leading the charge in responsible fashion design.

Distinguishing itself through a commitment to a wide array of organic and sustainable materials, Kuyichi’s repertoire includes organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester, post-consumer recycled denim, and the lesser-known yet remarkable T400 Ecomade. This innovative material comprises one part PET polyester, one part plant-based polymers, and one part virgin polyester. What sets T400 Ecomade apart is its ability to recover fully, reverting to its original shape after cooling down—a feature incorporated into Kuyichi’s jeans for added resilience.

To substantiate its dedication to sustainability, Kuyichi proudly displays certifications, offering consumers tangible proof of its commitment to ethical practices. Beyond sourcing eco-friendly materials, the brand has meticulously designed its manufacturing process to minimize environmental impact, further enhancing the sustainability and durability of its products.

A-dam

Our final Dutch highlight for today is A-dam, proudly based in the vibrant capital, Amsterdam.

What sets A-dam apart is its bold stance on sustainability—the brand explicitly rejects the label of being a sustainable fashion brand. According to A-dam, true sustainability is a continuous effort rather than an achieved status. The brand places emphasis on responsibility, acknowledging the ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future.

A-dam demonstrates this commitment through its choice of materials, using recycled and organic fabrics across all its products. The brand meticulously oversees its supply chain, ensuring accountability for all individuals involved in the production process. Collaborating with certified partners such as GOTS, Aquafil, and waste2wear further reinforces A-dam’s dedication to responsible practices.
