On Thursday the 19th of May, Fashion For Good invited me to the opening of their new exposition “Fashion Week: A New Era”.
It was an amazing experience and I am grateful that I was invited.

In today’s blog post, I want to tell you a bit more about the new exposition.
For those interested in sustainable fashion or fashion in general I would highly recommend visiting the museum.
The new exhibition discusses fashion week’s past, present, and future through runway looks and innovative looks of the future.
When you first enter the building it is best to start in the basement. On this floor, the past of fashion is explained, including major events that have happened on and off the runway over the years. Including events like the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in 1911, the invention of polyester fiber called Terylene in 1941, and the Rana Plaza collapse.
On this floor, you can also find an extensive overview of the production phase of clothing starting with raw cotton and ending with the customer. Here you have the opportunity to feel the materials in different phases. In the middle of the room, you will find couture looks from brands like Balenciaga and Moschino and photographs from famous photographer Bill Cunningham.
Next, we will take the stairs to get to the ground floor where the presence of sustainable fashion is presented. Here different Amsterdam-based sustainable brands are displayed. One brand is MAIUM, whose main focus is rainwear (VERY important since I live in rainy Holland). This brand creates rainwear made from recycled PET bottles.
In the center of the room, there are two beautiful art pieces created by Dutch courturier Ronald Van De Kemp (RVDK).
Taking the final steps upstairs where we find the future of fashion. Here different sustainable brands are shown with their looks from fashion week ‘22. The outfits all look super cool, and for each brand, you can find an explanation next to it. Furthermore, on a large screen, the digital village created by Evelyn Mora is displayed.
Evelyn developed this concept for the Helsinki fashion week, which was the first completely digital fashion week ever. It is a super fascinating installation, and you can even try and create your avatar on the laptop. In the room next to the big hall, sustainable alternatives to our current alternatives are shown. You will see different innovations that can be used to create a more sustainable fashion industry such as plant-based and biodegradable materials.
The exposition is up until the 27th of September 2022. If you are in Amsterdam, it might be interesting to visit the museum. Fashion For Good highlights the importance of changing the current fashion industry through innovative designs. You can enjoyably learn about sustainable fashion, even if you do not have a lot of experience in a sustainable fashion.
